BLOODY CLASH WITH RED ANTS! Locals vent anger on councillor’s house.

ILLEGAL land grabbers were rushed to hospital over the weekend after being ambushed by Red Ants.

Five residents of Madelukufa, Ekurhuleni, were injured during the incident. The land grab came after residents held a meeting with housing officials last weekend. Community leader Fredah Mothapo (40) was hit with a crowbar on both arms.

“We were just trying to mark our stands when the Red Ants snuck up on us from the bush,” she said.

“They hit us all with crowbars. They didn’t care if you were a woman, old or young,” Fredah said.

She said she had been living in Madelukufa for 23 years.

“Mandela came to visit our settlement after he was released from jail. Zuma has also come to promise us houses but I’m still sharing a shack with my brother,” she added.

Three residents said they were robbed by the Red Ants during the chaos. After the incident, furious community members marched to the home of Councillor Mncedisi Lugongolo and started vandalising it.

They hit the shack with rocks and spades as they chanted outside the councillor’s house. At the time, the home was empty.

Cops rushed to the scene and soon started shooting after officers said residents had shot two rounds of live ammunition at them.

The invaders then threw rocks at the cops, who responded with their guns.

Councillor Lugongolo was escorted back to his shack by the police. Officers then helped him load what remained of his furniture into a van. Daily Sun.

All the window panes in the house were destroyed.
