    Zimbabwean students suffering in Algeria, survive on prostitution, drug trafficking, begging

    Zimbabwe students on government scholarships in Algiers have fallen on hard times. Many have not received their annual $3000 for a very long period of time.


    Some have now turned to the oldest profession, prostitution in order to survive. According to reports young women have been left with no option than to trade themselves as sex workers.

    On the other side men are selling drugs in order to put food on the table.

    Zimbabwean government is broke and unable to pay student allowances leading to the crises at hand.
    One of the students studying in Algeria to studio 7 that: “Some girls are now engaging in prostitution. Boys are engaging in drug dealing. We are suffering … For now we are begging, we are going into the streets (looking for food),” he said.

    There are reports that a number of Zimbabwe students have been forced by circumstances to sell valuables like laptops and mobile phones in order to buy food to eat.
